Halloween Cash for Candy

CASH FOR CANDY
Local Dentist Takes a Stand Against Sweets this Halloween

One area dentist is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to the office of Dr. David A. Grossman in Baldwin and receive $1 per pound. Dr. Grossman is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and light-up toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.

“Cutting back on sweets, brushing twice a day and visiting your dentist twice a year are all great preventive measures, but eliminating excess sweets altogether would really give your oral health a boost,” says Dr. Grossman. “Kids can still have all the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks can benefit as well. The toothbrushes are pretty cool too!”

Global sugar consumption in children has been increasing annually. Not only can the sugar in children’s diet be harmful to the teeth, it can also lead to hyperactivity and/or weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Candy will be collected at the office of Dr. David A. Grossman on Monday, November 2, 2009, from 5 - 7pm. The candy must be unopened. It will then be shipped to our troops overseas. There will be a $7 maximum cash exchange per youngster.

Dr. Grossman has been practicing general dentistry in Baldwin since 1987. He is a past president of the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, and he also practices forensic dentistry as a member of the federal disaster team DMORT. For more information, please call the office at (516) 223-0726.
